                                                        redwings win big

Congratulations to the Red Wings who have JUST WON the

2008 Stanley Cup play-offs!

Living in Tennessee, I am a Predators lover...but I pretty much followed the Wings up to the finals and have rooted for them since the end of the first series. I will say that the Predators lasted just as long as the Penguins did, though! (Side note: we did not fight with as much spunk as they did to the last 30 seconds of the game.)

Hockey was a nice break tonight. Added bonus: Jonathan's parents just bought this rockin' new tv and so we watched the game in style! Ooh, plus the new living room set. Seriously, I want to plant there for a week without budging. His mom would panic, for sure. I could lift my feet for vaccuming, though.

I took a practice LSAT this afternoon and scored a 157. Not exactly a big success. I see some obvious things I did wrong on the test I took...and I am sure I have learned a lot from my work today. I am heartily determined to do at least ten points better than that on the 16th! Gah, at least I hope so. Otherwise, my dreams of Vanderbilt can walk themselves into an imaginary bar and drink themselves good-bye.

John Venn, creator of the Venn Diagram. This piece of stain glass is in Caius Hall at Cambridge University commemorating John Venn. :) So faboo. My mom wanted to see it, so I posted it...hehe.

Update on my bird nest - the eggs hatched sometime over the weekend, because there were baby birds in it last night when I was back at my apartment. It makes me happy, and coincides with Holly hearing her baby's heartbeat for the first time. Epic.

Kristen and I leave for New York tomorrow late night. I am super excited because! The Metropolitan Museum of Art houses this relief:

Akhenaten wrestling a duck...which I didn't know they had so much in Egypt. Ducks that is.  I like that the bill is pointed at his face just like the hands coming from Aten are, also. It is a gift from Aten! Ah.

Spring :)

Outside of my apartment, on a pipe that I presume brings hot water to my dorm, there is a bird :) We (Anne and me) think it is confused by the manic weather and has nested too early. In any case, the pretty little thing sits on its nest all day long, occasionally blinking, waiting on its eggs to hatch.

I have become obsessed with the bird and its purpose.

Sadly, one of the eggs hatched early, and the momma bird pushed it out. Somebody stepped on it. It was bird and ooze.

I think I have been following the life of this bird for two reasons. I share its confusion in the weather. I want spring time desperately. Yesterday afternoon, I went for a walk all around downtown and remembered what I had missed all winter when it was too hard to motivate myself to go out.

Secondly, because of Holly. :) I am so proud of her, the same way I am of this bird. Motherhood takes bravery.

While I was walking yesterday I started thinking about loneliness. As a preface, let me tell you I was not feeling lonely. I am surrounded all week long, and an afternoon alone is by no means a complaint of mine. That said, I was walking downtown and felt a strange draw to anyone else I saw walking or sitting alone. I think that solitude can be a mania, especially when you are surrounded by families and people with friends. Suddenly you get it in your head that you need someone else, that your day would be better if only you had some company.

Instead, I bought a Time and a lemonade and kept myself company. :) There is a Bright Eyes song I love love love that goes like this:

"When everything is lonely I can be my own best friend
I'll get a coffee and the paper, have my own conversations
with the sidewalk and the pigeons and my window reflection" - Lua

This perfectly sums it up :) Actually, the entire song is really epic.
